Sugar Loaf Walk

A pleasant circular hill walk following farm tracks, green lanes, hill paths and country lanes.

The route follows the River Afon Grwyney Fechan, gradually approaching the bracken lined path to the top of Sugar Loaf. The name Sugar Loaf originates from its appearance, looking like the conical shape left when pouring out sugar. Watch out for greedy ravens at the top looking for snacks!

You descend through a deep valley, gouged out by the Gwenffrwd stream, towards Llangenny. Here you will find an old church dedicated to St Cenae as well as an excellent refreshment stop at the Dragon’s Head pub.

From Llangenny the route initially follows the Grwyney Fawr River, passing several farms on the way.

There is another opportunity for refreshment in the Red Lion in Llanbedr before the short climb back to Perth-y-Pia.
